A recoiling barrel is the sure sign of a long-recoil auto-loader design. On firing, the bolt and barrel travel rearward together. As pressure inside the barrel drops, they unlock and the barrel returns forward under spring pressure. The bolt follows, picking up a fresh shell on the way. When it returns to battery, another shot can be fired immediately.

The standard set of three screw-in choke tubes—improved cylinder, modified, and full—will handle most hunting situations. Optional cylinder or improved modified tubes are also available.

The Franchi 48 AL shotgun comes in two grades, the Franchi 48 AL Deluxe and the 48 AL Field.

The Franchi 48 AL Deluxe is fitted with figured, select walnut, and features polished metal surfaces and a gold trigger. The 48 AL Field auto-loader has a satin-finished walnut stock, and matte metal surfaces to reduce game-spooking reflections.

The field grade is also available in a Field Short Stock model with a 12-1/2" length-of-pull for ladies or young shooters.

Ever since legendary gunmaker John Browning presented the long-recoil auto-loader about a century ago, auto-loaders have remained the first choice of many discerning wingshooters because of their lightning-fast handling qualities and superior feel. You’ll be amazed at how fast you can get repeated shots off from the 28-gauge Franchi 48 AL Deluxe—a gun that weighs just 5.4 pounds. The 20-gauge Franchi 48 AL Field weighs only a couple of ounces more than the 28-gauge.

All 48 AL models have chrome-lined barrels proofed for steel shot and are fitted with screw-in choke tubes in improved cylinder, modified, and full chokes. Cylinder and improved modified tubes are available as options.
